Crocodile Meat....

For the very first time in my life at dito pa yan mismo sa downunder.... Actually crocodile has become a very popular meat both in Australia and overseas and is part of a developing cuisine that is uniquely Australian.

I think this picture was from a chinese market somewhere in china coz i can see a Yen sign on the price tag.... Crocodile or " hand bags " in slang australian term maybe because their skin is a good material leather for not only hand bags but also for belts, wallets, and other things, may underwear din kaya na gawa sa crocodile skin....? Croc's meat is a succulent white meat with a delicious and unique flavour. With a wider range of products and cuts, crocodile is now available to suit all culinary needs woldwide....

Crocodile meat is low in fat and high in protein and is best cooked in the same manner as lean pork, chicken, or even fish dishes.... It can be prepared into a variety of dishes using wet and dry cooking methods and is ideal in marinade or sauce.... Ako naman on the other hand just wanted to see it searing on my bbq grill.... Sarap....!

....or maybe this is just one of those many reasons why they've called crocodiles, the " hand bag " lol....fair enough.... =D

Seafood marathon downunder....

I was planning to buy some prawns for the noche buena tonight but the queue was so horribly long.... So i've ended up making teriyaki chicken instead....

Shopping centres are in the middle of a marathon trading session, with stores staying open overnight and until 5.30pm today.

Shoppers at the fish markets will buy a staggering 83kg/min of prawns, 93kg/min of fish and almost 1000 oysters/min during today's traditional rush.

And as for my teriyaki chicken naman, it's absolutely delicious.... Better than any fish or prawns.... I think i've made the right decision going to the butcher rather than the seafood market today.... I'll just have that elusive prawns for the new year's eve.... Merry Christmas all....=D

Tomorrow....

Our company's christmas party will be at Ice Cube at Darling Harbour tomorrow.... It's right next to IMAX Studio so pwede din pala kami manood ng palabas pagkatapos....

I'm excited to try all the menus on offer but i'm just a little worried about my stomach because i'm always having problem with my digestion.... I'd better prepare a few handful of Antacid tablets tonight, buti na yung maagap tayo at baka magkalat pa ako dun bukas.... =)

Bush Tucker....

If you happen to find yourself lost amongst the towering gigantic eucalyptus trees and some strange looking wildlife, and dry red soil on the ground, you know that you're in an australian bushland....

Probably the very first thing that will come to your now slowly dehydrating brain is how are you going to survive out there, and what the hell will you eat....? So perhaps if we try to survive the aboriginis way, probably a handful of these yummy-juicy grub will sustain you with your much needed nurishments enough for you to live another day....

These days, we have 'discovered' Bush Tucker. Indigenous Australians have been eating bush tucker for 60,000 years but for a long time we steered clear of the mushrooms, fruits, vegetables, animals, birds, reptiles, insects, flowers, herbs and spices that are native to this country.

It didn't look nice. In fact it looked awful. It takes a fair amount of courage to munch on a lizard, and how about a large family sized moth? (You've heard about those grubs of course).

But there's also wonderful fruits, tubers, greens, seeds and nuts. Bush Tucker isn't just witchetty grubs, although Witjuti as they are commonly called by aboriginis are incredibly high in protein and free for the eating....

Bush tucker is becoming widespread, thanks to a spate of recent health studies showing that native Australian meats, especially emu and kangaroo, are lower in fat and higher in iron than other conventional meats. The fruits are also known to be healthier, with the Kakadu plum thought to be the world's highest source of Vitamin C.

Most of what European settlers believed to be inedible is now considered very much the norm on the menus of top restaurants around the country.

A close friend of mine sent this clip to me weeks ago, at hanggang ngayon ay medyo hindi pa rin ako convinced sa katutuhanan ng stunts na to....

Sa weekend balak din naming subukan to sa work out of curiosity lang ha-ha....! * toinks! * =D

Ampalaya for lunch....

How's weekend everyone....? Sorry for the short drop by again, still stuck with my tight schedules, but this time it's a bit better than the last time.... By the way, they've came up with a way to check people's performance lately so starting last thursday we have to write down all the job we're doing within a day both completed and job in progress before timing off and place that in a tray inside the boss's office.... Doesn't seem to help about the "protected people" issue.... But hey, i think i've created something positive with my anger-outburst there.... Kahit papano nakatulong ako....

Over time is also back in the limelight kaya ito lang ang weekend ko ngayon, sunday.... At least my one day weekend pa rin ako kaya make the most of the day na lang.... I just had my lunch a while ago, amplaya na ginisa sa baboy at hipon.... First for almost two months na nakatikim ako ulit ng proper pinoy dish, na-miss ko talaga.... =D

By the way, speaking of ampalaya, napanood ko lang to sa tv few days ago....

The health benefits of the humble Bitter melon were noted around 500 years ago in the writings of China's most revered medical scholars.... Though some may find its bitter tasting and a little hard to swallow, the taste actually doesn't really bother me at all.... Today researchers are returning to these ancient texts in the hope of finding clues to combat modern diseases like diabetes....

This brings back memory.... Tsalap kasi....! Have a great weekend all....! =D

Enter the Surprise Chef....!

Oi, wag kayong tumawa dyan, Outstanding Boy Scout yata ako nung araw....!

Ingredients:

1 cup water,

3 eggs,

1 cup bread crumbs,

1/2 cup flour,

2 spoonful of fried-dried onions minced (wala kasing makitang fresh),

salt, and pepper,

1 tbsp. minced shallot (dahon ng sibuyas),

vegetable oil,

Here's how:

All you have to do is to mix all the ingredients in a bowl tapos haluan ng minced shallot at inilagay sa plastic bag na tulad nung sa icing bag, tapos butasan ang dulo like what you do when eating an ice candy....

Galing kong talaga, yum....! =D

Nutrition Facts:

High on carbohydrates

High on calories

High on fat

Can be high on cholesterol

Can be deadly in the long run (nananakot)

Masarap pero wag kaining palagi, bad for the heart, wala nang halong pananakot yan ha-ha....! Anyways, thanks for your time spent reading my cooking tips today.... Kain muna ako, gutom na sa kaka-typing....! Adios taquitos....! =D

Square watermelons....?

WHAT THE....?! Meron na po talagang quatro-kantos na pakwan ayon dun sa napanood ko sa tv kahapon and there are actually several good reasons for making a watermelon in a block form like that, sabi nga dun sa napanood ko....

Since these things make great gifts, na hindi naman natin ginagawa dyan sa pinas dahil sino ba naman ang sirang BF na magreregalo ng naka-gift wrap na pakwan sa GF nya dyan di ba, (ang cheap mo ha!) at syempre chocolates pa rin naman ang da best and winning choice para dun sa mga GF, maybe in the future di ba....? But in countries where these square watermelons are most popularly grown, it makes sense to package them in boxes because of its square shape that easily fits into a square box with the minimum amount of wasted space....

Anyways, there's nothing imposible naman shapewise when it comes to gift wrapping nowadays.... I've seen a friend of mine gift wrap a whole mini-motorbike and had kept what is inside a secret from his 6 years old son, and asked him to only open the gift on christmas day, ignoring the fact that the darn thing still looks like a mini-motorbike with colourful papers and ribbons wrapped around it....!

So just think of it, a delicious watermelon packed in a home-grown gift box....! A kind of gift that will be appreciated, knowing that it would cost your pocket around $80 to get one of these juicy blocks (napakamahal naman) compared to about $20 for the normally boring unfashionable oval or rounded shape ones na mahal pa rin pero resonable na kung ang purpose mo ay para pangregalo nga.... Good thing about this is that they'are easily stored in your refrigerators at home.... Take it out, and it won't roll away....! Another thing is, the square shape of the fruit actually helps it sit steady while you are slicing it.... O di ba....!

And maybe you'are also wondering how is this possible.... Well, they aren't grown from square seeds as you've seen on cartoon channels.... Farmers in Zentsuji, located in southern Japan had succeeded in doing this by placing the young on-the-vine watermelons in tempered glass forms that force the growing melons to conform to their desired shape while still receiving necessary sunlight.... Only about 400 of the four-sided fruits are grown each season.... One would suppose that triangular or pyramid-shaped watermelons could also be created using this technique.... But i think the pyramid shapes are also in the market as well....

The Square Watermelon can be found in Japanese grocery stores in Tokyo and Osaka and is not currently available in some other parts of the world.... Square watermelons grown in Brazil have lately become available in Great Britain, though, so we may be enjoying them anywhere yet....! Kung ako naman ang tatanungin tungkol dun sa thoughts na maganda tong pangregalo regardless of its cost, of course nowadays this can really amaze, but is also a totally unwise spending.... Take it from Pepe, i-spend mo na lang sa movies yang pera mong pambili ng regalong square pakwan at sigurado't garantisadong magi-enjoy ka pa kasama ng GF mo the whole day he-he....! Yan lang po....! =D

Seafood cravings....

Since yesterday i was really dribbling at the thoughts of yummy prawns in my mouth....!

This morning when i woked up, i can almost taste the fried bangus na isinawsaw sa suka with patis and mainit na kanin in my mouth....! Hay....!

At talagang malalasahan mong manamisnamis pang talaga....!

So this afternoon, kahit na malayo sya ay talagang sinadya ko ang chinese fresh seafood shops just to buy those GENUINE live mussels (tahong) nila and few kilograms of prawns....! Talagang buhay nga sya ha-ha....! Nasa loob pa ng malaking containers at naka-airpumps (ano nga tawag dun?) pang talaga (susyal na mga tahong!) ang mga loko as in buhay na buhay nga sya....! Astig....!

Result, happy na naman si Pepe (babaw naman ng kaligayahan mo peng!) after that good seafood dinner.... Lumaki pa naman ako sa Seafoods Capital Of The Philippines, tapos eto ako ngayon dyeta sa seafoods whaaaa....! So ironic naman....!

Sarap....!!!!

BB hysterias down Oz....!

There's a new kid in town na naman....! Sariling atin sya at pinoy na pinoy talaga....! He even created a chaos in my workplace during his visit there last few days ago....!

It's very clear that even the other nations have developed an obsession to this young idol who's name is now a monument amongs those who knew him very well like us pinoys and also those who cannot even pronounce his name properly ha-ha....!

Mga my plens, very proud akong ipakilala sa inyo si BOY BAWANG at ang kasikatan nya pati na pala dito sa downunder ngayon....! He even set a world record dito and was witnessed by yours trully for the very first time in my life....! The fastest Boy Bawang eating record ever in the intire world....!

A 100grams packet of Boy Bawang lasted only a cracking 30 seconds in the lunch room during our morning tea break....!

Local culinary crap....

Last friday we (the whole company) went to a farewell party given by our ever generous company owner (Bert) to one wonderful co-worker, (Roger) an engineering staffer who's been there in the organisation for a fairly sum of years now and was spending his last few hours in the company with us before the retirement from this life's overturned daily routines (career/job) to a whole leisurous and a brand new horizon....

The party was held in a restaurant just along darling harbour in sydney who's crappy food was nothing compared to most restaurants with the same ranking in pinas.... When i say crappy, i mean crappy....! I'm not a chief myself, but i can do cook a decent meal, and when it comes to food i can definitely tell a good taste from the bad one....

I can't blame the company for setting the party at that place because obviously no one of us had been there before.... And as far as advertising is concern, i think it was purely curiosity that brought us there.... And i'm now really convinced that curiosity did killed the cat....!

Some western nations gave us names (kumpil) like: " only filipinos eats grass " but this time i think they're absolutely wrong....! This sort of a pressure on top of the head trait is also happening here in downunder....!

So far, this is only the second restaurant that i had experienced eating a tiny serving of dish with a bountifully exaggerated amount of garnishings and salads on top and all-over it that can already keep a hungry rabbit busy for hours....! And imagine those people that comes and go everyday....! What will they say too....?!

I whinge because it is so unfair towards the expectations of their costumers....! People came to those restaurants with ratings such as 3-4-5 stars expecting a good dining and a justified quality, quantity and flavor according to it's cost, but instead those restaurant are only selling their spots in the area and the views.... Forget about the food, forget about the whinge just look at the view....! Look there's a boat passing....! And then charging their costumers unfairly for those so called reasons....?! Now where is the fairness in that....?!

That's why i will never ever give away our yummy filipino dishes in exchange for some crappy culinary culture that they have here....! But as time goes by, they also seems to be getting more scarce than ever....!

And don't get me wrong.... Food is food and i do appreciate and thank god for whatever food it is on my table without a doubt.... We are more blessed to still have them on our tables, unlike some unfortunate people from poorer countries who doesn't even have a single grain of rice in their plates.... But i just hate it when people are using them to cheat towards others....!

Why can't these restaurant operators just at least forget about the greed and instead be honest and be fair to their costumers instead.... Besides, by doing so these costumers in return will keep on coming back and bring the life of their businesses ticking-over....!

I think i have all the rights naman to be upset at this very moment because i spent more than 30 minutes in the toilet last friday night trying to get rid of that toxic stuff inside my stomach that was bothering my sleep all night long....!

At hindi lang ako dahil pagdating ko sa trabaho kanina ay topic na sa work namin ang ordeal nila last friday night na walang pinagkaiba sa dinanas ko in almost every details....! Now you tell me.... Should i keep my mouth shut or speak out loud....?! Ha?! Wala kayong masabi ano....?!

Sige....

Tsk! Tsk! Tsk! Astig na buhay to....!

Wan yir old lumpia....

March 25, 2007, autumns day.... Araw din ng adjustment for daylight saving time for this year, ibig sabihin ay iaatras ng isang oras ang lahat ng mga orasan (power rangers, synchronise watches....!) sa buong Aus (downunder) or else the 6 o clock in the morning will be something like 3 am lang sa sobrang dilim....

Jet lag effect tuloy inabot ni astig....

After the commotions, back to normal na naman ang ikot ng relos sa kukote ni astig.... Time to have a breakfast.... What's on the menu, ah EGGBLOG and a cup of JAVA.... Pyutir-pyutirs muna before anything else....

Ang agang magsigising nitong mga ka-tags ko a, so browse muna si loko at pa-hop hop ng mga blogs on the net.... Mag-iiwan ng tags kaliwat kanan, itaas ibaba, ilalim ibabaw, patalikod paharap until reality strucked.... Whaat....! My stomach's talking to me....?! My stomach : Turn off mo muna yang pc and look for something to eat or i will just eat me instead....! Pepe : Rayt awey bos....!

Ano kayang makakain dito.... Napadako sa may freezer, ayun lumpiang rock solid takam....! (sabay tulo ng laway slurp....!)

Pero teka nga muna.... Esep-esep (bisaya).... Wan yir old na tung isang to a....! Leftover nung before ng new year's eve last december 2006 pa so ngayon ay 2007 na kaya wan yir old na sya.... Galing kong talaga ano....! Huuu....! Pwede pa yan....!

Kaya mabilis na nagpasya si pepeng beykows layp is at steyk (sarap nun a).... It's magic time, dyaraaan...! Apoy....! Dyaraaan....! Frying pan....! Dyaraaan....! Cooking oil....! What goes next is up to you.... Dyaraaan....! What, walang panandok....? Kamayin mo na lang peng....! Hooo-hoo-phuu! Init....! Araguuy....!

In short ay wala natira sa mga crunchy wan yir old lumpia at kumawala na ang isang mahabang dighaw.... Burrrrrps-burps....! (yaackh....!)

But kids, don't do this at home (sa neighbor's home pwede pa siguro) leave it to the highly trained professionals like me.... Takam ulit....! Balik muna si ako sa fridge ha....? Kitakits next post....!

Ridiculously ironic...!

Isn't it ironic that most of the time, fishery strategy which involves conservational values goes well hand in hand with exploitations that can lead to destruction of some of our unprotected natural resources...!

They knew a lot better than we do the consumers so they should also know when to slowdown for a while and let this creatures thrive back to commercial level na naman...!

Of course there will be a downside to that...

At naging convert pa ako hu hu...! Nakakalungkot lang talaga ang consequences ng demand for consumption kasi in both ways consumers and producers feed each other pero nababaliwala at napapabayaan ang main source of interest... We satisfy ourselves to the extent of almost destroying the very source of this satisfaction...!

Very ridiculous di po ba...?

Home-ceans apart challenges...

Good morning my plens, 7:00 AM tuesday morning wala pa ring pasok si pepe dahil on holiday pa rin hanggang ngayon...

May PIRATA...!

Bananacue - noun. 1. cooked, caramelised sugar coated bananas, springkled with sesame seeds and skewered in bamboo. 2. the life of meryendas and parties. 3. yum.

Another specie : Bananacuephillous-judasciousie

Extinction of the specie scientifically known as: Bananacuephillous-ausdelisciousie
The last one remaining of such a splended creature has died in captivity. There had been some numerous reported sightings of this creatures in the wild but all were regarded as a hoax and unreal...

Ayun suman bili tayo...! Ayun inihaw na mais bili tayo...! Ayun may mga tindang ulam punta tayo dun...! Ayun may santol dun...!

Here is a photo of the creatures reported sightings taken by an unknown 6 years old amateur photographer... Is it real or just a HOAX...?

  • Downunder - dito may four seasons, summer, winter, spring , and autumn...!

Naks a! Klasmeyt ka yata ni Balagtas pepe....! Paminsanminsan lang naman...
