Bilby....

Australia is a land of strange flora and fauna, yan ang unang napansin ko pagka-apak pa lang na pagka-apak ng mga paa ko dito.... Madami stuff toys nakasabit sa Duty Free he he.... And some of those are endangered like this cute and cuddly looking Bilby for example....

Para syang cross between Rabbit, Rat, and a Kangaroo ano nakakatuwa.... The bilby is a marsupial mammal which belongs to the bandicoot family and is about the size of a rabbit.

They have large ears, a silky light bluish-grey and white coat, and a long, black and white crested tail. Bilbies have a long pointed snout and a well-developed sense of smell to help them find food like makdo halimbawa....

Like all marsupials, the female bilbies have a pouch in which they carry their babies. Like the Australian koala, bilbies get most of their water from the food they eat.

The bilby populations are now isolated and scattered which means they are susceptible to ecological changes and are vulnerable to natural disasters such as disease and fire.

The bilbies in Queensland are now the most threatened and genetically distinct population in Australia, with only 600-700 specimens left in the wild.

Example lang na civilized na tayo nung time ng mga Dinosaurs with all the moral and intellectual advancements etc., ano kayang klaseng mga interventions naman pwede nating gawin just to save them from extinction, hindi kaya tayo ang na-extinct at ginawang tsibog ng mga yun....?

Hmmmm.... esep esep.... Alam mo Peng ala ka imagination talaga! Hindi ka ba nakapanood ng Flintstone....? Yan lang po.... =D

Bush Tucker....

If you happen to find yourself lost amongst the towering gigantic eucalyptus trees and some strange looking wildlife, and dry red soil on the ground, you know that you're in an australian bushland....

Probably the very first thing that will come to your now slowly dehydrating brain is how are you going to survive out there, and what the hell will you eat....? So perhaps if we try to survive the aboriginis way, probably a handful of these yummy-juicy grub will sustain you with your much needed nurishments enough for you to live another day....

These days, we have 'discovered' Bush Tucker. Indigenous Australians have been eating bush tucker for 60,000 years but for a long time we steered clear of the mushrooms, fruits, vegetables, animals, birds, reptiles, insects, flowers, herbs and spices that are native to this country.

It didn't look nice. In fact it looked awful. It takes a fair amount of courage to munch on a lizard, and how about a large family sized moth? (You've heard about those grubs of course).

But there's also wonderful fruits, tubers, greens, seeds and nuts. Bush Tucker isn't just witchetty grubs, although Witjuti as they are commonly called by aboriginis are incredibly high in protein and free for the eating....

Bush tucker is becoming widespread, thanks to a spate of recent health studies showing that native Australian meats, especially emu and kangaroo, are lower in fat and higher in iron than other conventional meats. The fruits are also known to be healthier, with the Kakadu plum thought to be the world's highest source of Vitamin C.

Most of what European settlers believed to be inedible is now considered very much the norm on the menus of top restaurants around the country.

5 ton of TLC....

This is a blogsite-espionage ha-ha....! Wala dapat akong oras na mag-blogging ngayong araw na to kaya lang may ikinompose pala akong pang entry dito last week kaya ipu-post ko na, nadaan na rin lang ako dito.... Last time naalala nyong nag-post ako about the artist elephant....? Well, here's another one about the elephant ulit, antalino pala ng animal na to ano daming alam gawin.... Marunong kayang magluto champurado to....?

Panoorin nyo to.... Would you trust this gentle giant to give you the most ultimate walastik massage experience you've ever tried in your entire life with those massive tree trunk-like legs....? =D

Elephant's self portrait....? What the....?!

Nandito na naman si Pepeng busy woooohoooo....! But before anything else, let's talk about a video clip that i've found in utube today.... Napa-wow talaga ako dito....! By the way, i do beleive in reincarnation.... Do you believe in reincarnation....? Because if not, then how will you explain this....?! I've never seen something like it before....! I don't think that this is one of those artist in the old elephant suit act, this is real....!!!!

Have you noticed the control and accuracy in the every strokes of the brush, and the details, at ang maliit na line sa base ng trunk na kunyari yung pangil o tusk ng elepante sa drawing....? Nakita nyo kung paano nya nilagay the second time yung brush dun mismo sa tabi ng unang line just to emphasize the trunk of the elephant in the drawing....?

There must be something going on in this elephant's brain....! Absolutely amazing....!

Brushtail Encounter....

Good thing about living in australia is you'll really get the chance to see the wild neighborhood once in a while without going to the zoo or wildlife parks.... They are so protected here that traffic on the roads will even stop for a family of wild ducks to finish crossing the busy highways....!

They've even erected some road signs warning the oncoming traffic about what native wildlife constantly cross a particular road like ducks, koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, john howard (a.k.a prime minister of Oz) etc.... And the animals themselves seems not bothered by passing cars, buses, and people at all....! Today before heading to work i've decided to take a morning walk around the block and for the first time in my life i've encountered a Brushtail Possum in flesh....! Astig....! Akala ko nangangagat pero hindi naman pala....!

It was grey with white and black markings on the face and it's about the size of a domistic cat, and because it is also a Marsupial, may pocket din sya na kagaya ng kangaroos kung saan nilalagay ang baby nya....! Cute ano....? I want to see it again so i will take another morning walk tomorrow around that area, this time a little earlier para mapanood ko ng matagal at malapitan.... Actually i might take it home with me he-he....! And besides, there are ten strict rules that should be followed when facing this kind of situation.... Rule #1 : Never take the wild animals home.... Rule #2 to #10 : See Rule #1.... Ngek....! Hopefully i will meet this cuddly little creature again bukas....! Good almost evening all....! =D

When LUCK saved the day....

How many times have you witness a scene from a wildlife video between the predetors and prey encounters that always ends up in a big dinner party with the prey on the menu....?

Well, i'm sorry to tell you that this one is an exceptional case ha-ha....! This is the day when luck had saved the prey....!

By the way, this is not in australia.... You are not seeing meat-eating koalas chasing a mob of bow-horned kangaroos here, this is africa not the 80's band but the kingdom of Simba ha-ha....!

I call this "the dog that climbed-up the tree to bite me" kind of a situation....! How can you possibly escape a moment of hopelessness like this....?! Probably i will just start praying na sana ay dumating na si Tarzan & Jane kasama pa si cheeta to save my kaastigan hu-hu....!

Anyways, i found this clip in u-tube today actually it was featured on the 7:30 news tonight and i thought why not share this with all my blog-friends he-he....!

This is a spectacular story of life's uncertainties.... Though not everyone ends up as fortunate as this buffalo calf, it's very clear that in every struggle, burdens and a constant hail of trials that we encounter in our lives no matter how hard it is, there's always a glim of light and a narrow opening towards a fertile green field and a new beginning.... Naks a ha-ha....!

So grab a bowl of popcorn and watch this short clip na pinaghirapan ko pa'ng hanapin sa u-tube ha he-he....! Enjoy....!

Toad Busters....!

I'm posting this topic because i find it both bizzare and funny.... I don't know if you're aware that australians had been fighting a long battle against the invasive cane toads for a long number of years now....

There has been some attempts to get rid of this harmful pest and one of those which i found so uniquely strange is now going on in Darwin.... Cane toad madness....!

By the way, cane toads are not an alien creatures from mars or outer space, it's just a humble toad same in appearance with our hawaiian toad in the phils i don't know if we are talking about the same thing here 'coz they look exactly the same....! Maybe they are the same after all he-he....! Makapagpyutirs-pyutirs nga mamya para mag-research....

Anyways, a single nanay toad can produce hundreds of thousand eggs in a single breeding season.... In short, these eggs will hatch into little baby canies ready to spread fears on anything in their path na parang grimlins nyahahaaa...!

Unlike the common toads, cane toads are harmful to native wildlifes.... It is said that the milk like liquid oozing-out through the toad's skin has a similar effect as poison when mistakably eaten by animals.... There has been some numerous attempts to rectify this problem but so far, non of which what so ever had been proven effective in lowering their numbers and keeping up with their fast breeding phase....

The funny thing was, somebody came up with a genius idea to motivate people to keep catching the pest and secure a victory platform in the middle of this battle.... That instead of facing their defeat, they came up with a way to do the toad busting the fun way....! I'd say, " pulutan " ang solusyon dyan he-he....!

Here's the funny bit, in Darwin you can exchange this gross creatures with bag-full of freebies....! Astig....!

I think for every 2 toads, you'll have an ice cream in cone.... For 4 toads, you will receive a schooner of beer, and for every 10 toads that you can catch you can get a free ticket for a movie of your choice.... Ang galing di ba....?!

If ever pala na may chance akong pumunta sa Darwin, instead of taking with me heaps of pocket money i'll just bring a large basket na lang 'coz their currency is readily hopping all-over the place ha-ha....!

Yukh....!

There's something strange in your neighborhood....

Who you gonna call?

TOAD BUSTERS!!

I can't hear you!

TOAD BUSTERS!!

Louder!

AAAAAAAHHHH!!

How's that?

That's too loud!

Napakanta pa tuloy ha-ha....! Dyan na nga kayo....!

Assassin Part - 2....

I was reading an entry about books from Tina's blog-site tonight and i had that instant " Deja vu " effect in my mind after that....!

But before that, again i would like to share with you this long list of ideas that i've made-up today while at the work-place about the 10 possible ways to repel magpie's from swooping down on you he-he....! I still hasn't got-over that two attacks that i've had earlier this week yet....! Mabuti nang naka-prepare ako para bukas ulit....!

Mind you, magpies are very clever birds.... I've witness a few of this cleverness many times....! The birds collects nuts of any kind, waits 'til the pedestrian-crossing lights flashes walk, leave the nuts in the path of the waiting cars, then return to the spot to gather the inner meat of the nuts after being cracked by the passing cars when the light flashes walk again....! Astig di ba....?

Magpies are members of the mocking-birds family like the talking Mynas or " Kiyaw " (inset photo) as we commonly call it back home in pinas, na available as pets in most pet shops world wide....

They can also learn to talk if taught patiently like their cousin the Mynas....

10 ways to avoid Magpie attack....

1) Eyes on the back of the head - Takot raw ang mga magpie na mag-atake kung tinititigan, so i thought i'd wear something that resembles an eye at the back of my head.... Pwede na kaya yung dalawang kutsinta he-he....!

Go-go-gadget tirador he-he....!

Para silang kasali dun sa Bob the builder ha-ha....! Can we fix it, yes we can....!

6) Wear Nike shoes - It's your big chance to really test this brand, kumaripas ka ng takbo and hope that the shoe will stick to it's reputation just enough for you to cross the park ha-ha....!

7) Walk with pets - Since animals nga ang talagang primary targets nila ay may big chance na ma-divert ang attentions nila dun sa kay doggie at hindi na sa'yo aatake he-he....! Takbo doggie bilis....! Bow-wow-wow....!

8) Ran as fast as you can - Yun nga tulad dun sa Nike brand....!

I'll just post Tina's books and my Deja vu-experience na lang sa next entry ko kasi very late na....! Ingatz na lang sa lahat.... Exit na ulit si ako....!

Assassin at the park....!

WHEW....! This morning i was targeted for the first-time by an assassin dun sa may golf club where i normally cross every morning on my way to work....!

They seldom attack people naman, normally dogs and other pets lang inaatake nila.... Pero today, why me....?! Maybe i was at the wrong place at the wrong time lang o baka akala sa akin ay animal din whaaaa....!

I was bombarded with aerial attacks twice, buti na lang at naka-baseball cap pala ako kanina....! Seriously, the council should do something about it kasi baka makabulag sila ng mata in the future....! They really must relocate them in some safer areas far away from the busy streets....

Oo nga pala, what i'm pointing-at here is a particular australian bird the MAGPIE....!

For readers who wonder what the * boink * is a Magpie, they are actually big black and white birds who are very protective of their nests during the Australian winter and spring season....

People walking past may be seen as an invader of it's territory, promting the bird to swoop-down at them and attack....! And mind you, the experience is quite alarming specially for a first-timer like me....!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HEY IT'S ME....! On my office computer, updating on that magpie attack.... Today i was attaked again ha-ha....! This time i ran away na....! Well, there's no other option but to take the other side of the road i guess untill the nesting season is over....

I just felt sorry for the old man and woman taking a morning walk behind me, they walked back where the came from i reckon....! Anyways, that's me for today....! Have a wonderful day everyone....! Bye for now, but not forever....! See you later....!

God save the devils....!

So much for my crankiness this week, happy thoughts naman tayo ha-ha....!

American Looney tunes company is about to release a DVD in support of the Tasmanian Devils.... A dollar of the revenue per DVD will go to the wildlife foundation for the protection of the endagered creatures....

In reality, the tasmanian devils are vulnerable creatures.... Unlike the looney tune's version, they are prone to disease (facial tumour) and predetors that cause a decline in the devil's population and still going down as we blog....

There could be as little as 60 devils left in the wild capable of sustaining a species survival program.... One thing's for sure, i will be chasing and monitoring this DVD's....! I'm interested to get one....! I'm a big fan of looney tunes, and this could be my big chance to contribute and be a devil's hero myself....! Wooohooo...!

For those of you who doesn't know the devils that much, they are a very gentle creature.... Contrary to the expectations of some, this guys we're just cuddly, noisy creatures that loves to fight over a smelly carcass and not over your hands or legs ha-ha....!

Yun na rin yun ha-ha....! I'm a bit busy today finishing a painting that i've started ages ago....! Okay, have a good weekend all....!

Astig pala si Bantay

Woooohoooo....! Ano nga palang year nag-umpisa ang blog sites....? Pero back to our topic proper muna tayo....

---------------------------------Pasakal

I cant believe it....!

Mapanganib pa tayo ngayon, wat did wi do ba waa-haa-haat!

May Malaking Daga...
